Vote While Being #HealthyAtHome
During this time it is of utmost importance that we are able to stay healthy. On Friday, April 24 Governor Andy Beshear signed an order that will help us meet that goal. The executive order allows all Kentucky residents to use mail-in absentee ballots for the June 23rd Primary Election.
On Election Day, usual polling locations will not be open. All voting will happen at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.
The State Board of Elections has built a secure online portal that gives voters the ability to request an absentee ballot be mailed to them. The portal is now available at GoVoteKY.com.
When requesting the absentee ballot, voters should simply indicate it is for a medical excuse. No reason beyond a medical excuse will be required.
Once a ballot is requested, the Jefferson County Clerk’s office will issue a ballot that includes a barcoded envelope. The barcode will help with tracking, but will not appear on the ballot itself.
Absentee voters will need to request a ballot by 6pm on June 15 and must return it postmarked no later than June 23 (the new primary election date).
Voters who cannot access the online portal can make an appointment to vote in a Jefferson County Clerk’s office. Appointments will be available June 8-12, June 15-19, and June 22.
If you wish to request an application for an absentee ballot over the phone, you can contact the Jefferson County Clerk’s office at 502-574-6100. If you decide to go through the Jefferson County Clerk’s office be aware that voters can only request an application for an absentee ballot, not the ballot itself. The application for an absentee ballot will arrive in the mail and, after filling out the form, must be returned to the Jefferson County Clerks Office before the actual absentee ballot itself will be sent.
Voters who wish to apply for an absentee ballot online should wait for the portal to go live on May 22.
Please stay #healthyathome and continue to check back for updated information.
